The Stripfoil system is based on the movement through the machine of adhesive tape which picks blisters of the base of the magazine stack, carries them through a mechanism which strips the foil from beneath each pocket on the blister card, allowing the tablets, caplets or capsules to fall into the collector by gravity. The used tape rolls up onto a waste reel, and the empty blisters are ejected from the machine into a waste bag.

The machine has a number of adjustments designed to maximise the range of blisters it can process. Many of these adjustments are only used in special circumstances. With many thousand different blisters of all shapes and sizes, the versatility of the process was the greatest challenge to the designers, and the result has been very successful.
